The Army Corps of Engineers is testing the waters to see if there's any interest in developing a lodging and recreation complex at Mark Twain Lake.

The corps, which manages the lake created by Clarence Cannon Dam's construction on the Salt River 32 years ago, said Wednesday that it was soliciting private party interest in a project on 331 acres of publicly owned land.

Interested developers can submit proposals that contain at least a 100-room lodging facility, a restaurant for resort guests, a conference and meeting facilities for 300 people and a boat-mooring structure. Applicants can also propose other amenities such as golf courses, tennis courts, trails, indoor sports facilities or a conference center.

The corps said it was only gauging market interest and wouldn't necessarily end up soliciting final development proposals. …
