Tuscaloosa Academy Girls Crush East Memorial

The Tuscaloosa Academy girls basketball team racked up 14 steals during a 43-6 victory over East Memorial Christian Academy on Thursday night.

TA held EMCA scoreless in the first half to take a 34-0 lead at halftime. EMCA scored all of its points in the third quarter.

"We do a pretty good job in our 1-3-1 and did a good job tonight with a lot of tips and deflections and turnovers," Knights coach William Johnson said.

Sixth-grader Chloe Johnson led TA in scoring with 19 points and had four steals. Mackenzie Smelley finished with six points, four steals and five rebounds, and Carlie Cochran also scored six points.

"We played well," Johnson said. "We try to play to our standard and not anyone else's, no matter the competition."

Tuscaloosa Academy (14-4) wraps up regular season play tonight at home against Kingwood. …
