Peters people put off by long lines at their polling locations soon should see relief.

New voter precinct boundaries are likely to be in place by later this week. Washington County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark Mascara is expected to finalize a new map redrawing 11 of the 12 precincts in Peters.

The township approved the changes several years ago after the 2000 census showed a dramatic increase in population in the southeastern portion of the township. Two precincts that had been mostly rural farmland near the township's borders with Union and Nottingham now represent about half of the township's population, township Manager Michael Silvestri said.

That resulted in long lines and complaints, especially during the November presidential election. But the changes couldn't be put into place until a statewide congressional redistricting plan was ironed out last year. …
