Tuscaloosa Man Charged with Attempted Murder

A Tuscaloosa man charged with the attempted murder of a narcotics agent is accused of trying to run over the officer with his car during a traffic stop Thursday night.

The officer, who wasn't injured, fired his gun at suspect Renato Luberto Savage, 37, but didn't strike him.

The agents stopped Savage near 35th Street on Thursday night because they knew he was wanted for a parole violation in Mississippi and they believed he had a large quantity of cocaine, said Lt. Kip Hart, Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit assistant commander.

"As the agents approached the vehicle to take Savage into custody he accelerated his vehicle directly at one of the agents," Hart said. "The agent tried to retreat but was forced to discharge his departmental issued weapon in fear for his safety and the other agents. …
