Davies Hits Back at Dyke and Brooking Criticism

CITY is an excellent place to develop young talent, but can't be expected to fill the first team.

That is the view of Simon Davies, the man tasked with bridging the gap between the youth and senior sides.

City have come under criticism from Greg Dyke and Sir Trevor Brooking in the last week for their youth policy, with the latter unhappy Patrick Roberts has not seen more game time.

The former Fulham youngster (pictured) - along with Bersant Celina - has been one of the starlets linked with a loan move amid 'a lot of interest' in the EDS, but Davies backed Manuel Pellegrini's thoughts on the player's development.

"I always believe, from my experience, that if you train the best with the best on a daily basis and when they're playing games together, you're going to get players out of that system," he said. "Of course they've got to either get in our first team or in somebody else's first team at some stage because they can't all go through, but while they're developing I wouldn't totally agree with that because if you challenge them on a daily basis, work them hard, quality against quality every day, they can only succeed. …
