Iraqi, Syrian Refugee Screening * The Senate on Jan. 20 failed, 55-43, to reach 60 votes for advancing a bill (HR 4038) that would require the heads of the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation and intelligence agencies to clear all refugee applicants from Iraq and Syria. This would add layers to the existing two-year-long clearance process. A yes vote was to start debate on the bill.
