WINTER STORM

Harsh winter weather across the Northeast has prompted flight cancellations at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.

The Mid-Atlantic coast on Friday braced for potentially historic winds and more than two feet of snow in some areas. Four nonstop destinations from Sarasota-Bradenton -- Charlotte, N.C., Washington, D.C., New York and Boston -- were expected to see severe winter weather by this afternoon.

The first wave of the storm on Friday canceled five American Airlines flights from Sarasota to Charlotte. Some other Friday evening flights were delayed, but it was not clear if the winter storm was the cause.

As of 10 p.m. Friday, many Saturday flights to destinations including Charlotte, Washington, D.C., and New York had been canceled, according to the airport's website and other flight- tracking services. …
