Airport Adds Year to Use $500,000 | Money Awarded in 2012 to Help Add Western Flight

Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is still pushing to add a western hub to its collection of nonstop flights.

The Sarasota-Manatee Airport Authority on Monday ratified the extension of a $500,000 small community air service development grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The airport received the grant in September 2012 with plans to garner a new nonstop flight to a western hub such as Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston or Denver.

The grant was set to expire in December, but airport CEO Fredrick "Rick" Piccolo requested a one-year extension from the agency. The airport CEO may execute grants on behalf of the authority if the terms of the grant do not differ materially from those previously accepted by the board. …
