* Nick Suriano's technical fall against Northern Highlands on Friday was his 144th career victory, passing three-time state champion Johnny Sebastian for the top spot at Bergen Catholic. Suriano is 23-0 this season and unbeaten in his career.

* Old Tappan's Tyler Mullen set a school record for career wins earlier this month with a pin against Tenafly on Jan. 13. The win was his 124th, surpassing previous record-holder Michael Magaraci, a 2009 region champ. Magaraci presented Mullen with a plaque Friday during the Golden Knights' home match against Hackensack.

Mullen is 18-0 this season with 15 pins and has since increased his win total to 129.

* The Passaic County tournament is Sunday at West Milford after being delayed a week by the snowstorm.

DePaul is gunning for its fourth straight team title, but Clifton is on a roll with 12 straight wins since an early-season loss to Bergen Catholic and appears ready to challenge the Spartans. The 170- pound weight class is shaping up to be the showcase event, with state contenders Dan Kilroy of Wayne Hills, Spencer Carey of DePaul (defending champion) and Jala'a Darwish of Passaic Valley.

* Saturday is the cutoff date for the state sectional tournament. The top six teams in each section in each of five public groups and two non-public groups will qualify for the tournament that begins Feb. 8. The sectional champions will head to Pine Belt Arena in Toms River on Feb. 14 for the state group championships.

* The 11th Annual Mike "Little Pev" Pevny Benefit at New Milford will have an added twist Friday night when the Knights name the smaller of their two gyms and wrestling room the "Little Pev Gymnasium." It will honor the physical education teacher and assistant wrestling coach who passed away in 2005.

Pevny coached the wrestling team with his older brother, Walter. …
