Pelle's Hopeful Kevin Is Not out for Season ; Match Reaction City 3 Everton 1

CITY manager Manuel Pellegrini said he was optimistic Kevin de Bruyne would not be out for the season, but admitted he wouldn't know the extent of the injury until his medical staff had assessed the problem more closely.

De Bruyne, whose introduction turned the League Cup semi-final game with Everton in City's favour, fell under a challenge from Ramiro Funes Mori and damaged his right knee.

He left the game on a stretcher after receiving gas and air and with his leg in an air brace, but Pellegrini said afterwards the early prognosis was that De Bruyne had damaged his medial ligaments, not his cruciate.

"We will see tomorrow," Pellegrini said.

"The doctor thinks he has a problem in his medial ligament but it is impossible (to know) before tomorrow."

Asked if he was out for the season, Pellegrini said: "I hope not. It is very difficult to know in this moment but I am optimistic he will not be out for the rest of the season. It is not a cruciate ligament, it is the medial ligament."

It was a wonderful cameo from De Bruyne, who also set up the winner with a delightful delivery that allowed Sergio Aguero to head home. …
