Fair Lawn Swears in 3 New Officers

FAIR LAWN - Three new police officers were sworn in Tuesday by the Fair Lawn Council.

The officers were hired as replacements for a "slew of retirements" the department has had, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Tiller Uriarte, 38, transferred to Fair Lawn from the Jersey City Police Department, where he had worked since 2012. Prior to that, Uriarte had been a Paterson officer from 2007 until he was laid off in 2011. He is a 1997 graduate of Union Hill High School in Union City and since 1997 has been a member of the Army National Guard, where he is a sergeant. He served two deployments in Iraq.

Uriarte has begun familiarization training and will earn $89,040 a year, Metzler said.

Geovanny Buitron, 24, a 2009 graduate of Fair Lawn High School and a borough auxiliary officer since 2013, was also appointed to the department. …
