Bc's Trause Resigns for 'Personal Reasons'

Bergen Catholic assistant wrestling coach Joe Trause, a former two-time state champion with the Crusaders, resigned last week.

"It's true," coach Dave Bell said Wednesday. "He resigned [last] Thursday."

Bell said Trause was asked to resign over a personnel matter, but would not elaborate.

"He resigned for personal reasons," said Jack McGovern, Bergen Catholic's athletic director. "That ends it for me in my ability to comment about it."

Trause is the third coach from a high-profile program in North Jersey to leave his post in the past two weeks.

Chris Bitetto resigned as head coach at Don Bosco on Jan. 14 after school officials discovered he had allowed eighth-graders to work out with the team in its wrestling room.

And Steve Klass was removed as coach of Paramus this week for reasons that have not yet been revealed. …
