Wendy's probes possible fraud with payment-card charges

Wendy's Co., the third-biggest U.S. burger chain, is investigating reports of unusual activity with payment cards used at some of its 5,700 domestic locations. "Reports indicate fraudulent charges may have occurred elsewhere after payment cards were legitimately used at some restaurants," Bob Bertini, a spokesman for the Dublin, Ohio- based company, said in an emailed statement.

Butane facility could be built in region

MarkWest Energy Partners and Marathon Pipeline Partners are considering building a facility in the region that would convert butane into a fuel additive. Colorado-based MarkWest said it markets about 75 percent of natural gas liquids produced in the Marcellus and Utica shale regions, and butane is one component of that. Marathon is betting on government regulations requiring gasoline to have higher octane ratings. Butane can be refined into alkylate, an octane booster. MarkWest and Marathon said they're waiting for a decision on the project within the next 12 months.

Pleasant Hills reschedules UPMC zoning hearing

UPMC's challenge of Pleasant Hills' zoning code has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at Pleasant Hills Middle School. The challenge was filed to allow UPMC to build a 300,000-square-foot hospital on 80 acres at Route 51 and Lindsay Snyder Road, less than a mile from rival Allegheny Health Network's Jefferson Hospital. A zoning board hearing scheduled Tuesday was rescheduled and moved because about 200 people turned out, overwhelming the borough's meeting room.

EARNINGS

* Universal Stainless & Alloy Products reported losses for the fourth quarter and all of 2015, citing weak pricing, a shaky economy, and their customers' bloated inventories. The Bridgeville specialty metals producer lost $3.4 million, or 48 cents per share, in the fourth quarter vs. net income of $1.7 million, or 24 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. …
