Keeper Valdes Makes Final Jibe at Van Gaal

Article excerpt

VICTOR Valdes aimed a parting shot at United manager Louis van Gaal after he played his first professional match in eight months.

The 34-year-old made his Standard Liege debut in Saturday's 2-0 win at Leuven, having sealed his loan move earlier this month.

Valdes made just two appearances for United before he was ostracised by Van Gaal in preseason, and the former Barcelona stopper stressed the loneliness of his time at the club's Carrington training complex.

"I'm very happy for my first win today with Standard!" Valdes posted on his social media pages.

"And so happy for play again after 8 months working alone. Thanks to the Standard Supporters today, was amazing."

Valdes is out of contract at United in the summer and is unlikely to extend his sorry stay in Manchester.
