ADRONE was just 50 FEET from colliding with a passenger plane near Manchester Airport.

An aviation watchdog said it was of three 'nearmisses' in Manchester last year. The drone was reported hovering at 2,800 ft - 2,400ft above the legal height. Experts have warned a collision could have been 'catastrophic'.

The plane was starting a descent into Manchester when the pilot spotted a bright blue drone just 50ft in front of the cockpit.

The drone's operator was never traced, said the report from UK Airprox Board, which monitors incidents in UK airspace.

This 'severe' near-miss on August 27 was one of 20 nationally last year.

And experts are warning the risk of a collision will increase as drones grow in popularity and sophistication.
