BUTLER -- Officials are ensuring a brighter future for borough streets -- under higher-efficiency streetlight fixtures.

"To date we have installed 217 General Electric Evolve Series ERX10 fixtures and 36 General Electric Evolve Series ERS2 fixtures," Borough Administrator James Lampmann said this week.

The ERX10 fixtures replace the borough's old 70-to-100-watt high- pressure sodium fixtures, and the ERS2 lighting replaces 250-watt high-pressure sodium fixtures, Lampmann said.

All the new fixtures will respond to daylight and darkness to turn the lights on and off.

"The design life of the fixture is in excess of 100,000 hours, with lights expected to last nearly 25 years," Lampmann said.

While the fixtures cost more upfront than standard lights, they consume 50 percent less energy. The lights being replaced in the current budget cycle are $229. …
