Bail Hearing Canceled for Man Guilty of Fraud

A bid by prosecutors to revoke the bail of a Glen Rock man convicted of fraud -- who, they allege, scammed others while awaiting sentencing -- was sidelined Tuesday when the hearing was abruptly canceled before it began.

As two federal prosecutors and the defense lawyer for Paul Mancuso, 49, waited for U.S. District Judge William J. Martini to return to the bench in Newark on Tuesday afternoon, the judge's courtroom deputy emerged from chambers and announced the hearing had been adjourned without a new date.

Defense attorney Stacy A. Biancamano offered a terse "no comment" as she ushered her client out of the courtroom.

Alleging that Mancuso was using a phony alias last month in an attempt to lure new victims into fraudulent real estate transactions, federal prosecutors had asked Martini to revoke Mancuso's $250,000 bail and hold him while he awaits sentencing for his guilty plea in September to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. …
