St. Louis Day Care Shut Down after 3-Year-Old Left on Bus for Hours

The state shut down a north St. Louis day-care center Wednesday, two days after its staff left a 3-year-old boy in a bus for seven hours without food or water.

This is the second time that the GSL Developmental Center, 4401 Fair Avenue, has left a young child in a bus. In 2011, a GSL bus driver left a 2-year-old girl alone in a bus almost six hours, also without any nourishment.

"While the facility had a transportation policy, it was not followed. This demonstrates that GSL Development Center, Inc. is unable to provide a safe environment for children," wrote Sue Porting, child care administrator for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, in a letter to the day care Wednesday.

GSL has declined to comment on the issue.

Monday, GSL staff called St. Louis resident Tahanica Scott to tell her that her son, Dallas, 3, had been left by himself on a bus all day. …
