Wolf Wants to Combine Pa. Agencies to Cut Costs

HARRISBURG - The budget proposal Gov. Tom Wolf will present Tuesday will include two mergers intended to save money and improve the service of related missions.

Mr. Wolf said Friday that he would renew his call to merge the Department of Corrections and the Board of Probation and Parole into a single agency. A bill to combine the two passed the Senate in November. The House hasn't voted on it.

He also will propose moving the eHealth Partnership Authority, which was created to enable the secure exchange of electronic health information, into the Department of Human Services.

"The goal is to make our government work better," Mr. Wolf said at a Capitol news conference. "I want it to work smarter, I want it to work better in terms of using the resources we use more efficiently and more effectively, and I want it to serve the people of Pennsylvania -those are our customers -I want it to serve the people of Pennsylvania better. …
