A small, Maine-based air carrier will start offering three-days- a-week service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Naples Municipal Airport on South Florida's Gulf Coast, beginning Feb. 27, the airline said Friday.

Portland, Maine-based Elite Airways will use a 70-passenger Bombardier regional jet on the route that will link New Jersey's largest airport with the popular high-end retirement community, where the median owner-occupied home value is $718,300, more than four times the median owner-occupied home value for the entire state of Florida, according to U.S. census figures.

"Naples is going to do so well it will become a daily flight," said John Pearsall, president of the 10-year-old airline that operates 11 aircraft and also does charter work, mainly serving college sports teams. Pearsall said the slot at Newark was available for a new carrier. …
