ROCHDALE manager Keith Hill bemoaned his side's defending as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Crewe Alexandra.

Marcus Haber and Bradden Inman gave Alex a two-goal lead at the break as the hosts punished two defensive mistakes.

Dale created plenty of chances, with Ian Henderson spurning two of their best, but ultimately left Cheshire empty-handed.

However, Hill accepted that his side's defensive frailty had cost them the game.

"I'm really disappointed with the defensive aspect of the team," he said.

"We've trained well, the lads have prepared well but when it comes to matchday it's down to responsibility and we haven't seen enough players accept responsibility defensively."

Dale were impressive in beating league leaders Burton Albion last week, and Hill kept faith with the same starting XI as they strived for back-toback wins for the first time since August.

Jamie Allen's early long-range shot was straight at keeper Ben Garratt before Henderson headed wide when unmarked from six yards out. …
