WAYNE -- The Township Council has adopted an ordinance prohibiting parking on several streets located near Passaic County Technical Institute during school hours.

The ordinance, sponsored by Councilman Al Sadowski, carries a $48 parking fine, and affects Borzotta Boulevard, Bullens Avenue, Adams Road and Boonstra Drive.

"The issue up there is dire, and this ordinance is gravely important for the safety of everyone, especially the students," said Mayor Chris Vergano.

Residents say the parking situation has been a problem for 30 years, but has worsened in the last few years. Residents along streets included in the ordinance, which was adopted Wednesday night, worked with the council to devise a solution to the parking problem, which they say poses a safety risk to the PCTI students who cross Preakness Avenue en route to the school on Reinhardt Road. …
