Site preparation work is well under way for a new mall in Adams that was vigorously opposed by residents when it was proposed two years ago.

The diesel rumble and gasoline whine of earth-moving equipment and tree-clearing chain saws echo from the hilltop as crews work to clear and grade the site at Route 228 and Mars-Crider Road.

But as of yet, there is no information coming from Monaca developer C. J. Betters on the schedule or completion date of construction, or possible tenants that will be moving into the 450,000-square-foot mall.

Township officials say they have received no information, and Betters office has turned aside phone inquiries and did not respond to written questions from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

When the mall was brought before township officials in the fall of 2002, neighbors immediately rose against it. …
