Cranberry Officers Lauded for Part in Ending Chase

Afternoon rush hour was approaching Sept. 3 when Cranberry police got a call for help from the Pennsylvania State Police.

The state police were involved in a high-speed chase of a vehicle commandeered by a homicide suspect from Delaware. Westbound on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the car was fleeing at speeds of more than 100 mph.

Several police cars had been rammed and several motorists had been forced off the road.

State troopers and officers from other municipal departments had tried to help by placing spikes on the road that are used to flatten tires. But that hadn't worked.

Then, four Cranberry officers got involved -- Cpl. David Tresky and Officers Rhonda Rearick, Jeffrey Kobistek and Duane Brucker.

Rearick headed east on the turnpike to act as a scout, said township Public Safety Director Steve Mannell. …
