CRANBERRY

The township got word last week of two state grants that will be used for a fire training facility behind the Route 19 fire station.

Public Safety Director Steve Mannell said the $17,700 -- $5,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development and the balance from the state fire commissioner's office -- will be used for architectural design of a $280,000 fire tower he hopes to build and for construction of two concrete pads that will be used for practicing rescue operations.

Mannell said he hoped construction of the pads can begin in the fall. No time frame exists for the fire tower project.

Upset about the condition of Pleasant Hill Road, Marshall officials may decide not to provide winter maintenance of the road for the state. …
