-GUILLERMO Varela believes he is now strong enough to build a long career at United.

The 22-year-old Uruguayan right-back began in different competitions for the Reds in his first three starts: a Champions League full debut against Wolfsburg, a Premier League baptism against Bournemouth and an FA Cup bow at Derby County's Pride Park.

After joining in 2013 from Penarol, Varela went on loan last season to Real Madrid's B side Castilla.

But he feels ready for the Reds senior challenge.

"I love being at United and I'd love to enjoy a long career here and win everything that comes in our path," he says.

It was that Euro start in December that provided the foundations for Varela to launch his challenge.

"It gave me a kind of inner calm to say that I could compete at the level of the Champions League," he adds. …
