AMAN proposed to his childhood sweetheart at their local Aldi branch - by sliding the ring down the conveyor belt.

Jono Dempsey, 48, and Sue Mason, 47, met in Sale when they were 15, through mutual friends.

They remained pals - but Jono secretly carried a torch for Sue and in December 2012 finally confessed she was the woman of his dreams.

But when it came to finally popping the question... Jono, a construction manager, didn't choose a restaurant or romantic city break.

Instead, he decided that the perfect venue would be their local Aldi in Sale, which the couple visit up to three times a week. Describing the moment her diamond ring came travelling down alongside her milk and bread, Sue said: "It was so romantic. Some people might laugh but it is a place that really means something to us."

She added: "He wanted to do it somewhere that meant something to both of us and that we'd remember, but nowhere cliche.

"We're in our local Aldi store about three times a week, for our main food shop and then we get bits as required too. …
