Youngsters Take Valentines Craft Event to Heart

A free, puzzle-themed crafts activity Saturday in Topeka gave youngsters a chance to show family members they love them "to pieces."

Children ranging in age from toddlers to early elementary school students took part in the event -- held the day before Valentine's Day -- at the Toy Store, 5300 S.W. 21st.

Mel Lang, the store's assistant manager, said Saturday's project was one of many free activities it offers weekly throughout the year.

Lang said accompanying adults, usually parents or guardians, helped each child to:

- Glue Popsicle sticks in a rectangle on construction paper.

- Glue a pink heart atop the Popsicle sticks.

- Glue recycled puzzle pieces, which had been painted red in advance, atop the heart.

- Write the child's name across the Popsicle sticks below the heart. …
