OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Transportation Commission awarded a $14 million contract for the first phase of the reconstruction on the Interstate 35 and I-240 interchange in south Oklahoma City.

The first phase will include reconstruction of I-240 from S. Santa Fe Avenue east past Shields Boulevard and converting S. Santa Fe Avenue to a full interchange to accommodate the I-240 traffic that currently uses the interchange at Shields.

The reconstruction effort will replace the interchange with a modern, three-level interchange with dedicated ramps for I-35 and I- 240 traffic to address congestion and safety issues by providing longer ramps for more merging distance.

Construction of the first phase is expected to begin this summer and take a little more than one year. The contractor can earn incentives for completing the work early. …
