Paterson Bridge to Be Refurbished

PATERSON -- Two lanes of the busy Wayne Avenue bridge will be closed to traffic later this year when work begins on a $3.75 million reconstruction of the 85-year-old span, Passaic County officials said.

The heavily traveled bridge is near the Great Falls and not only connects two busy sections of Paterson across the Passaic River, but also links two parts of the emerging Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park: the Overlook section along McBride Avenue, and the Mary Ellen Kramer Park, near Hinchliffe Stadium, on the river's north side.

The project is in the design phase, and the exact date for the start of construction has not yet been determined, officials said. But the work should begin sometime in 2016 and will take about 15 months to complete, they said.

The bridge was built around 1931 and underwent a partial reconstruction in 1985, officials said. …
