Hiring Increasing for Accountants, Sales Staff

OKLAHOMA CITY - Even with recent layoffs in the oil industry and more jobs lost with the closing of six Wal-Mart stores in the state, hiring for some professions, including sales and accountants, is increasing, according to a report from Express Employment Professionals.

In northeast Oklahoma, the staffing company is seeing more demand for clerical, accounting and banking positions. In Tulsa, demand for workers in transportation, distribution and warehouse industries is holding steady.

"We have seen a surge of applicants from the oil industry," said Bob Funk, CEO and chairman of the board for Oklahoma City-based Express Employment Professionals. "Many of the applicants are looking to make industry changes, more so than in previous oil industry downturns."

According to recruiters at Express, companies in other industries are willing to hire these candidates even if the job seeker plans to go back to the oil field when the industry recovers. …
