LEIGH Centurions have released former Catalans Dragons centre Mathias Pala with immediate effect.

The 26-year-old joined the club in June for what owner Derek Beaumont described at the time as a 'nominal fee', but has left after making just five appearances in the Kingstone Press Championship.

A French international who as also played in Australia with Balmain Tigers, Pala has reached a mutual agreement with the Centurions to depart the Leigh Sports Village and is free to sign for another club.

Beaumont said: "As a club we believe in being honest with individuals and always act in their best interests. Our coach, Neil Jukes, has spoken to Mathias and outlined that he feels his opportunities will be limited. Mathias has his wife and young son with him and they are expecting their second child, so it would be inappropriate to keep him over here in these circumstances. …
