Hill: I Won't Make the Same Mistakes I Made at Barnsley

KEITH Hill is sensing growing similarities between his current job at Spotland and his ill-fated tenure at Barnsley.

Hill left a number of his young guns out of the midweek 2-2 draw with Crewe and insisted he had to start looking after his own position rather than constantly promoting potential.

Jamie Allen, Callum Camps and Andy Cannon were all left out of the squad and Hill reckons he has to start protecting himself.

"I have to look after me at this football club, not the young players who I give opportunities to," he said.

"They have to hurt for me and this football club when we lose.

"To be honest, it's really difficult. The only way I can protect myself is by picking the players that best represent the cause and the situation we're in, whether we're at the top of the league, middle or bottom."

The Dale manager explained that his aim was to help improve the younger players in the squad. …
