Why can't the elected officials in Congress and the Senate just do their jobs and allow the president to do his job? It is shameful the way the Republican candidates are carrying on about who should be responsible for filling the vacant seat on the Supreme Court left by the unfortunate demise of Justice Antonin Scalia.

I cannot even imagine the horror I would feel if this man were one of my family members. An apology is certainly warranted to Justice Scalia's wife, Maureen, and his nine children.

President Barack Obama expressed his condolences and mentioned "in due time" that he would nominate a candidate to fill the empty seat. He recognized that the family is going through a terrible ordeal and nominating another person to fill Justice Scalia's seat is secondary; he was being sensitive to the family's grief. …
