ASDA'S Wonky Veg boxes are now on sale in Greater Manchester.

The family-sized crate, which costs just Pounds 3.50, is packed full of 'ugly' and 'weird'-looking vegetables that normally would have been thrown away before they made it onto shelves.

The supermarket chain trialled the idea in the south of England earlier this month and was amazed by how popular it was.

Following a huge demand, bosses pledged to put 10,000 boxes into 550 more stores across the UK, at least once a month.

Each box includes 5kg of fresh produce which is enough to feed a family of four for a working week - and at Pounds 3.50 is 30 per cent cheaper than standard lines.

The contents of the wonky fruit and vegetable box will vary according the season, but customers can expect to see carrots, potatoes, peppers, cucumber, cabbage, leeks, parsnips and onions. …
