RSPCA officers were called to reports that a cat had been dumped in a recycling bin - only to find it was a cuddly toy kitten.

It had been mistaken by two women as an animal in distress so they rang the charity for help.

RSPCA Rochdale Animal Centre posted the tale on their Facebook page.

They said the women had spotted what they believed to be an injured or possibly dead cat dumped in the bin close to where they worked.

"The pair waited at the scene for 30 minutes until the RSPCA inspector arrived.

The Facebook post said the ladies 'hid their eyes' as the inspector went to pull it out of the bin and to their surprise out came the cuddly toy.

It read: "Two ladies rang the RSPCA helpline to report that an injured, possibly dead, cat had been dumped in a large recycling bin. …
