Mike Carr, Jake Wentzel and Greg Bulsak enter the wrestling postseason with the same goal: To repeat as section, WPIAL, Southwest Region and PIAA champions.

Carr is a senior from South Fayette, while Wentzel and Bulsak are seniors from South Park. All four reached the pinnacle of WPIAL wrestling by winning all four Class AA postseason tournaments.

"Winning all four postseason tournaments is the ultimate accomplishment for a WPIAL wrestler," South Park coach Walt Karrenbauer said. "Jake and Greg are the first wrestlers in South Park history to reach that goal. Both are hoping to match last year's accomplishment, but it will not be easy."

All three have moved up one weight class since last season, and two of the three boast an unblemished regular-season record. Wentzel (30-0) will be competing at 160. Bulsak (32-1) has moved up to 182. Carr (30-0), unbeaten for the second consecutive season, is now at 145.

"Mike and his brother Nick are the only two PIAA champions in South Fayette history," South Fayette coach Rick Chaussard said. "But Mike is the only one to win all four tournaments in the same season. Nick lost in the regional finals the year he won his state title."

The trio begin their trek Saturday at the Class AA Section 1 tournament at Ellwood City. All three are two-time section champions, and all three are heavy favorites to repeat.

Carr is one of three returning section champions from South Fayette. The others are Shane Ging and Rasaun Culberson. Ging (31- 9), a three-time section finalist and one-time champ, has moved up one weight class to 138. Culberson (36-4) has moved up to 220.

"We have 13 entries, all but heavyweight," Chaussard said. "Our hope is to have all four qualify for the WPIAL tournament."

The top five finishers from each weight class in each of the three sections qualify for the WPIAL Class AA tournament Feb. 26- 27 at South Fayette.

The top seven finishers from each weight class at the WPIAL tournament qualify for the Southwest Regional, which also includes qualifiers from Districts 5 and 6. …
