Ramsey's $24.3M Budget Would Raise Taxes 1.79%

RAMSEY -- The Borough Council has unveiled a preliminary budget of $24.3 million for 2016 that would require a 1.79-percent tax increase on the average household.

The budget, introduced on Feb. 10, was completed early this year in advance of an audit by the state that the borough must submit to every few years.

Borough homes assessed around $424,000 will see a tax increase of roughly $40, Council President Vanessa Jachzel said.

The total amount to be raised by taxes is $16,293,596, up about $300,000 from last year. About 70 percent of borough revenue is collected through taxes.

Many line items in the budget remain unchanged from last year, Jachzel said. For instance, state aid is staying flat at $1,474,471 and, on the spending side, money for road resurfacing is consistent at $350,000. …
