Corrie Star Antony's Mum Named NHS Unsung Hero

CORRIE favourite Antony Cotton's mum has been named an NHS Unsung Hero for helping women who are recovering from breast surgery.

Enid Dunn, 71, began volunteering with Bolton NHS Foundation Trust after she underwent surgery three years ago.

After her operation, Enid, like many breast patients, was discharged from the ward with a drain to her wound.

She recognised the need for some kind of container to carry the drain and designed a special bag that helped achieve early mobilisation for patients, as well as maintaining their dignity postsurgery.

The idea worked so well that she decided to continue voluntarily making the bags for anyone on the ward who needed them.

Enid, who lives in Greenmount, Bury, with husband Paul, is described as an 'integral part' of the facility's breast service department and was nominated for the award - which aims to highlight the work done by people in non-medical roles - by staff engagement lead Sandy Wilkie. …
