Town Recorder Becomes Interim Marmet Mayor

After a three-judge panel removed Mayor Bill Pauley from office for misconduct Thursday, the town recorder, Tammy Kersey, has taken over as the interim mayor of Marmet. According to current city ordinance, Kersey will be required to finish out the rest of Pauley's term in office as mayor.

Pauley was removed because of ethics violations in the mayors election in 2013. Pauley signed a conciliation agreement in September stating that he knowingly and willingly violated city election laws by encouraging voters who don't live in Marmet to vote and providing them with a list of candidates to vote for.

That conciliation agreement was cited by the three-judge panel when they decided to remove Pauley from office.

The Marmet city council is refusing to comment on any issues pertaining to the matter.

While the city code is clear, there is some confusion around whether or not the city council will attempt to appoint a successor to Pauley, rather than having Kersey serve the term. …
