A new computer system that Penn Hills school officials hope eventually will link home and school was probably the cause of some students receiving incorrect grades on report cards last week.

Apparently a kink in the system allowed some incorrect grades to be posted on report cards, then sent to students' homes, said district spokesman Matthew Cummings.

Any mistakes were eventually caught by teachers, who must verify all grades before they record them on students' permanent records. Some also were noticed by parents, a few of whom called the schools, said Cummings.

Cummings said the problem wasn't widespread.
