Students in the Plum Borough School District outdid themselves this year.

Youngsters from elementary through high school raised $75,482 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. That's a record for Plum and possibly enough to retain for a second year the honor of being the district with most collections for the charity nationally.

"As far as we know, it is the top fund-raising district in the country," said Make-A-Wish spokeswoman Ann Fisher, adding that final figures for comparison may not be available until March.

Last year, Plum raised more than $58,000 for the charity.

District students have been raising money for Make-A-Wish for several years. They hold any number of fund-raisers in the schools and conduct a one-day telethon from the high school television production studios just before Christmas break. …
