The Clairton School District has launched a plan to bring teachers, administrators, board members and the public into a process to evaluate and improve education in the city's schools.

The first "Let's Talk About Education" meeting was held last week at Ramondi's Italian Restaurant in Jefferson Hills, with 25 people in attendance.

"The purpose of these meetings is to create a forum of teachers, administration and board to talk to one another about education and the importance of learning in Clairton," said Assistant Superintendent John Ogurchak.

The series of monthly meetings extending into March will allow educators to pinpoint needs within the school system and ways to improve them.

Parents and other members of the community will be invited to the meetings to offer suggestions of their own.

The ultimate goal will be to gather the suggestions and use them to develop higher standards for the Clairton school system.

Suggestions will be part of the strategic plan for the 2000-2001 school year. …
