Mayors Meet to Discuss Economic Development

Consistency in zoning could lead to consistency in appearance along the Route 51 commercial corridor.

That was the view shared last week by the mayors of Baldwin, Brentwood and Whitehall boroughs during a roundtable discussion on economic development.

Attending were Brentwood Mayor Ron Arnoni, Whitehall Mayor Jim Nowalk, Baldwin Mayor Alexander Bennett and Economic Development South Chairman John Slater.

"Surprisingly, it was the first time we all got together," Nowalk said. "We had talked about it, but had never done it."

"We wanted to zero in on the points that have to be fine-tuned down the road" to spark commercial revitalization along Route 51, Bennett said.

Nowalk said Brentwood and Whitehall zoning laws are more consistent with each other than they are with Baldwin.

But he didn't foresee any problems with resolving the inconsistencies. …
