Alabama Baseball Faces Red-Hot Nicholls State Team

It's easy for the University of Alabama's baseball program to focus its attention on Wednesday night. When your midweek opponent scores 52 runs in the first weekend of the season, you take notice.

The Crimson Tide (2-1) will face Nicholls State (4-0) today at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in their first midweek contest this season. The Colonels swept a home series against Mississippi Valley State last weekend and have scored the second most runs in the country through the season's first weekend.

Before landing at Alabama, head coach Mitch Gaspard spent six years as head coach at Northwestern State, where Nicholls State was a conference rival.

"Nicholls State has always had a really tough, hard-nosed team," Gaspard said. "Seth Thibodeaux is a terrific coach. They're back-to- back 30-win seasons and they beat LSU last year, they beat Louisiana- Lafayette twice last year. …
