VETERAN scrum-half Peter Stringer has been rewarded for his fine debut season at Sale with a new contract.

Following hot on the heels of the two-year deal signed by up-and- coming centre Sam James' earlier this week, Stringer, enjoying the opposite end of his playing career at 38, has agreed a 12-month extension to a deal that was due to run out this summer.

With James among the forefront of Sale's new wave of young English talent, the experience of Stringer, who earned 98 caps in Ireland's No.9 shirt during 11 years of distinguished service, is invaluable - particularly as fellow former internationals Danny Cipriani and Dan Braid prepare to leave their playing days at the AJ Bell behind them.

Steve Diamond, who signed Stringer from Bath last year, has praised the former Munster livewire for revitalising Sale's backline. …
