Butler County Firms Plead Guilty to Selling Misbranded Cheese

Two defunct Butler County cheese companies and one of their top corporate executives pleaded guilty Friday to selling misbranded imitation cheese from 2010 to 2013.

Michelle Myrter, 44, who controlled Universal Cheese & Drying and International Packing and served as president of bankrupt Castle Cheese, all of Slippery Rock, pleaded to a misdemeanor count of aiding the introduction of misbranded and adulterated food into interstate commerce.

She also entered pleas on behalf of Universal and International Packing, both of which are out of business, of conspiring to introduce misbranded products and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Castle Cheese, of which Ms. Myrter was an executive, made varieties of cheese, and Universal dried, chopped and sold the product under different labels. …
