PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The bulletin board situated against the left wall of the Mets' rectangular clubhouse had a new printout pinned to it Friday morning.

Alongside the documents detailing the day's schedule and pitching groups was a black and white copy of a New York tabloid from earlier this year quoting manager Terry Collins as saying "Let's win it all!"

Shortly after 9 a.m., Collins and other Mets staffers and officials addressed the team, ushering in the beginning of the team's defense of its National League crown.

"Last year is over," Collins said. "We got to enjoy it for a period of time. Now we've got to focus on what it's going to be to get ready for the next year and what we've got to do. We realize there are a lot of people after us. We get that. I'm of the mind to embrace it than ignore it."

"I like our chances to go out and compete and it's going to be fun to watch them get ready this spring."

Pitchers, catchers and position players finally hit the field as one Friday as the Mets had their first full squad workout of the 2016 season. Collins delivered his annual speech and stressed how it's up to this group to deliver on its promise, and there is room for improvement. The Mets are projected as NL East favorites and a top team in the NL.

"There are expectations and the only way to come through on those is to perform and go about our business and get ready and that's what spring training is about," Mets starter Matt Harvey said. "Talk on paper is just talk on paper. If you're not ready to go play then none of that matters."

To walk around the team's complex Friday was to get a glimpse into what a dynamic team the Mets have built.

An outfield group that includes re-signed slugger Yoenis Cespedes occupied one field, while the revamped infield with Neil Walker at second and Asdrubal Cabrera at shortstop fielded grounders on another. …
