A Green Approach to Sewer Overflow Is Best for All

As a founding member of the Clean Rivers Campaign, the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association has been working for more than five years to move our region toward a more sustainable and equitable approach to solving our serious sewer overflow problem. Since the sustainable approach is clearly a better deal for ratepayers and will achieve the same environmental results, simply staged differently, it is disappointing to see the Post-Gazette characterize this as an attempt to delay action ("No Delay: Fix the Sewage Overflow Problem - On Time," Feb. 21 editorial).

In fact, we are very pleased that the region's political leadership and our sewer authority are now united in requesting that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice approve an adaptive management approach that will allow us to solve the problem in a smarter and more cost-effective way ("Pittsburgh, Allegheny Seek Delay on Sewage Overflow Plan," Feb. …
