KU Basketball Game Time Saturday Conflicts with Kansas Democratic Caucus, Prompting Protest

Kansas men's basketball is set to tip off in Lawrence this Saturday at about 3 p.m. -- the same time that Democrats will caucus, prompting a protest Monday.

Democrats upset that the game was scheduled at the same time as the caucuses gathered in the heart of the KU campus to demonstrate. An online petition calling for a time change has gained 800 signatures.

About 20 demonstrators stood across from Strong Hall, KU's administration building, with signs that read "Vote" and "Game Change."

Dan Walker, a student helping organize the demonstration, said the demonstration wasn't about a single candidate.

"We would say that really this is very much KU's responsibility," Walker said. "Things like elections, we would all agree, having the right to vote is something that has far more precedence over the immediate needs of having a basketball game when ESPN wants it. …
